what’s with Keto?

there’s a ton of hype around Keto or the ketogenic diet.
the ketogenic diet (often termed keto) is a very low-carb, moderate protein, high-fat diet, designed to put someone into a state of ketosis. restricting carbohydrates and moderating protein forces the body to break down adipose tissue. when breaking down triglycerides, in the absense of carbohydrates and excess amino acids, ketone bodies are produced. ketone bodies can be used by every muscle and tissue of the body, including the brain.
ketosis is an adaptation to starvation – when the human body goes without a dietary input of energy for an extended period of time, it is forced to shift into breaking down excess body fat for energy.
we can get into nutritional ketosis by manipulating our macro nutrients – increasing our fat intake, eliminating our carb intake, and moderating our protein intake. but the big question is, is this healthy?
